i have started doing these iphone video studies that will lead to a new video series. I am interested in the background sound and how it is relative to the visual motion whether humorously or as a juxtaposition.

A great time-lapse of Popup Projects friend Greg “Craola” Simkins by Amy Duran for Juxtapoz Magazine.

Living Room with Twelve Corners
A Popup Projects Salon
April 24th 2011

Popup Projects invites you to a one-night salon where artist Joseph Imhauser will transform and re-appropriate the living room of organizer/ artist j.frede. Approaching the domestic space with a delicacy and detail that has been seen in Imhauser’s previous Interior installations, the completed work is sure to be balanced negotiation between colorful notations referencing both seen and unseen aspects of the architectural elements within the room and the soft details and objects we associate with domestic life and the security of being at home.

Imhauser has a strong connection to Echo Park having lived and worked in the neighborhood for five years. Many of his works made in Los Angeles were within close proximity to the location of the salon. Imhauser moved to New York from Los Angeles to attend NYU an MFA in 2010.

Living Room with Twelve Corners will alter the domestic space through site-specific painting, sculpture and other objects while maintaining the spaces comfort and original intent; a living room. Through subtle force, flow, and interpenetration the site becomes a complex blurring of authorship and authority, an exploration into multiple planes and compromise between the artist and the space, the artist and the resident, residence and alteration.

Popup Projects is an artist run organization that is interested presenting projects and exhibitions in locations ranging from empty commercial storefronts, private salons, outdoor spaces, online projects, and guest curating at established galleries without defining an environmental hierarchy. Popup Projects was created with the intention of showing unrepresented artists, as well as a platform for established artists to experiment with site-specific projects.

Hosted by j.frede, Amy Duran & Edward Cao
